Broken is the eleventh track on the Gorillaz' 2010 album Plastic Beach.

Band member Murdoc Niccals stated the following about "Broken" in a track-by-track commentary:

"Erm….I don’t really know what to say about this track, y’know, like Frank Zappa said “talking about music is like fishing about architecture”. This track just works. I don’t want to talk about it. Is that, OK?"

Lyrics

Distant stars come in black or red
I've seen their worlds inside my head
They connect with the fall of man
They breathe you in and dive as deep as they can

There's nothing you can do for them
They are the force between when the sunlight is arising
There's nothing you can say to him
He is an outer heart and the space has been broken

It's broken
Our love
It's broken
It's broken
Our love
Broken

Is it far away in the glitter freeze?
Or in our eyes every time they meet
It's by the light of the plasma screens
We keep switched on all through the night while we sleep

There's nothing you can do for them
They are the force between when the sunlight is arising
There's nothing you can say to her
I am without a heart and the space has been broken

It's broken
Our love
Broken
It's broken
Our love
Broken
It's broken
Our love
It's broken
It's broken
Our love
Broken

In the live performance of Broken during Escape to Plastic Beach World Tour, a visual animation was used that featured Noodle playing a melodica while standing in Russel Hobbs' hand as she stood in the middle of the ocean.
  • During Part 3 of The Dressing Room, Murdoc is seen singing a botched rendition of "Broken" as he sits in what remains of the band's Dressing Room.
  • As a "working title", Broken was called "Pink Stink Fish", Murdoc played around with the title until he declared it to silly, so had it changed.
