Ryder

Shaun William Ryder (b. August 23, 1962) is an English musician, vocalist and songwriter and an ex-postman who became famous in the Madchester era with his work with his main musical group The Happy Mondays.

Role in Gorillaz[]

Ryder provided vocals for the track DARE from Gorillaz' second studio album, Demon Days. He also appears in the music video for the track, where he appears as a large disembodied head kept alive through a series of tubes and electronic wires, living in Noodle's closet. As with other Gorillaz related endeavors, Murdoc seems to be a fan and a close friend with Ryder. He joined Gorillaz on Demon Days Live, Escape to Plastic Beach World Tour, Humanz Tour, The Now Now Tour and Song Machine Tour.

Musical Career[]

Ryder was the singer for Happy Mondays untill their break-up in 1992. In 1995 Ryder launched his new project, Black Grape. Their second album, Stupid Stupid Stupid, did not achieve the same critical nor commercial success as their first, It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah, and the group split in 1998. Ryder later reunited with Happy Mondays twice, in 1999 to 2000 and 2004. He has also released a solo album, Amateur Night in the Big Top, to a mixed critical reception. The Black Grape reformed briefly in 2010, and released a single in 2015. In August 2017, the group released Pop Voodoo, their first full album since 1997.
