Snakes And Ladders

"Snakes and Ladders" is an ska-based unreleased track recorded in Phase 2. The only existing recording of this song was featured in the Gorillaz documentary, "Bananaz ". This song features Roots Manuva and was later scrapped and given to Martina Topley-Bird to use in her song "Soldier Boy".

History[]

In the documentary Bananaz, Damon Albarn is shown singing along to the recording of the song with Roots Manuva. There is also footage of Roots recording his lines that were later used in Martina Topley-Bird's song. The song would unfortunately be scrapped, and Roots Manuva would later return to the studio a second time to record All Alone with Martina.

Fragments of the song such as Root's verse and the guitar would be used in Solider Boy, a B-Side to Martina's 2008 single release Poison. Gorillaz would be credited in the liner notes, however Roots goes uncredited.

Trivia[]

  • Roots Manuva's line, "Who put the chemicals in the food chain?" was warped and used in the Demon Days Intro.
